Zakiya J. Lord proudly hails from the island of Bermuda. She began her career as a Clinical therapist in Birmingham Alabama, before moving into management on the south side of Chicago. For the past decade, she has been involved in fundraising, and has worked for Astraea Foundation, and Lambda Legal. Presently she works as a Senior Philanthropic Advisor for the Movement Voter Project, where she helped mobilize over $100 million to grassroots organizations across the country, doing electoral organizing work. She has volunteered for numerous organizations including the Center on Halsted, the Chicago Foundation for Women, as well as The Ali Forney Center. Most recently she co-founded OUTBermuda, and continues to serve on their board of directors. She currently lives in Brooklyn, with her spouse where they are raising their 6-year old son who is Black boy joy…and magic.
